Change for Kids (CFK) is a child-centered youth development nonprofit whose mission is to create opportunities for kids so that they can overcome inequity. We believe opportunities create options - one cannot dream what one has not seen. We believe that creating opportunities for young people allows them to see themselves with different options, through different lenses. This affords them the tools to reimagine their own possibilities and the tools with which to overcome inequity. Opportunities to engage students in enriching activities, interact with positive role models, and develop a curiosity for learning that fosters engagement promotes an alternative glimpse into the future - allowing youth to reimagine what is possible and realize their potential.
CFK began in 1994 as a grassroots movement dedicated to transforming New York City’s public school education landscape. What began as a bridge between passionate individuals seeking change to public elementary schools in need of resources has grown to a full-service youth development organization dedicated to creating opportunities for kids during and after school so they can overcome inequity.
Through partnerships with public elementary schools and mission-aligned community-based organizations, CFK provides access to intentional experiences, critical resources, in-school support, and inspiring role models targeted at increasing developing students’ social-emotional skills and self-agency. For 25 years, CFK has worked tirelessly to meet the needs of students; CFK will be piloting work in building agency in young people, and is excited to jump into its next quarter-century of impact.
About the Opportunity:
The Program Director is a member of the Programs department. Determined to be a catalyst in creating educational equity, they are directly responsible for maintaining the coordination, implementation, and administration for all school enrichment and support programs. They will provide safe, nurturing, and well-supervised programs, and will act as the primary liaison with parents, collaborators, and school and community leaders. Specific duties include program development and management, carrying forth prudent fiscal management, participation in staff development, and off-site collaborations. In addition, the Program Director will be responsible for the collection of program data, providing reports for contract compliance, and assisting with administrative support. The Program Director’s ability to establish authority through leadership, communication, and most importantly patience, will be required in order to give our students the stable and nurturing atmosphere they need to succeed. They will be directly responsible for creating a positive, fun atmosphere to ensure participant retention. The Program Director will represent Change for Kids in the community and serve on-site and/or organization committees, as needed/requested. As a school-supportive employee, the Program Director position is contractually funded on an annual basis.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
-Create and implement fun, engaging, developmentally appropriate activities in the areas of Common Core, Positive Youth Development, project and performance-based learning.
Implement and successfully deliver Change for Kids’ After School program model.
-Ensure cleanliness in all program areas, including the upkeep of the equipment and program space.
-Design a site program schedule/calendar together with the site team that includes a variety of educational, enrichment, and recreational activities that align with Change for Kids’ program model and school district requirements.
-Develop rapport and build relationships with faculty, staff, and participant families.
-Recognize potential issues and apply established Change for Kids procedures and problem-solving methods as needed.
-Observe staff and youth behavior, assess its appropriateness and apply the appropriate behavior management technique, positive redirection, or corrective action as necessary in order to support positive behavior choices.
-Assist in the marketing of programs for growth and retention.
-Supervise, train, mentor, coach, and manage all staff, students, and volunteers in the program at the site.
-Provide monthly goals to support site staff as a contribution to professional development in line with Change for Kids objectives, policies, and procedures.
Immediately report and document any and all injuries or incidents utilizing established procedures for notification to parents and Change for Kids staff, as well as school staff as needed.
-Serve as a mandated reporter, and immediately report any applicable statements, injuries, suspicions of abuse or neglect, etc. to school staff, Change for Kids staff, and the NYC Administration of Children’s Services as applicable and required by law.
-Provide performance management, feedback, and timely performance evaluations.
-Be aware of, and assist with budget modifications as needed.
-Maintain comprehensive student and volunteer records and produce reports as required.
-Adhere to purchase order processes.
-Hold staff accountable to weekly and monthly planning expectations as established by the Change for Kids program model.
-Administer assessments on program quality and service.
-Track key performance indicators and outcomes; report on data to key stakeholders.
-Champion the implementation of all evaluative measures, including the Holistic Student Assessment and other tools used by Change for Kids
Additional key responsibilities:
-Adhere to Change for Kids and school district on-site safety expectations; implement safety plans at the site; carry out mandated drills to be tracked on-site in emergency drill logs and assessments.
-Supervise and provide support for the food storage system and maintain accurate meal records for daily reporting.
-Accurately complete and submit time cards/payroll records, incident reports, rosters, receipts, and all other Change for Kids program-related records in accordance with established policy.
-Support and implement human resource policies and procedures.
-Demonstrate reliability and punctuality by arriving on time for scheduled shift and completing supervisory responsibilities in a timely and thorough manner.
-Maintain the highest degree of confidentiality in student, staff, and management matters.
-Attend staff meetings, training, and other pertinent events as recommended by the department head.
-Help create systems and processes to make the program more efficient and effective.
-Protect and represent the brand of Change for Kids at all times
Qualifications of ideal candidate:
-College degree in Education-related field and prior experience in developing and implementing enrichment programs in an educational setting/public schools preferred.
-A sense of urgency while problem-solving, with a focus on long-term goals and solutions
-Excellent communication skills with the ability to speak to diverse stakeholder groups (oral and written)
-Passion for making change in the lives of young people
-Go-getter with a “change the world by any means necessary” attitude
-Team focused, highly collaborative, responsible, flexible, and detail-oriented
-Process oriented with solid computer skills; Salesforce experience a plus
-Ability to adapt to changing environments and priorities
-Reflective and demonstrates a desire for feedback
-Ability to travel and flexible to attend events and meetings on nights and weekends
-Possess reliable transportation to and from the program site - whether public transportation or personal vehicle.
-Strong computer skills have the ability to track data and produce reports
-Possess excellent communication, supervisory, administrative, and fiscal management skills
-Bi-lingual (Spanish) a plus
Monday - Friday, 9am-6pm
Salary and Benefits:
$55,000 - $60,000 per year. CFK offers full time employees a robust benefit package, including generous time off.
